Search for missing baby believed to be 'hoax'
Police in County Down are treating a call claiming that a baby had been abandoned along the Bangor shoreline, as a hoax.
A search operation was launched in the early hours of this morning after a local charity received an
anonymous phone call from a young woman claiming to have left her baby close to the coastline, near the Pickie Park or in the wider surrounding area.
The search began shortly after 3.40am this morning, and was assisted by the PSNI helicopter and the coastguard. However, it has since been called off.
Detectives in Bangor have appealed for anyone who may have any information on the source of the call to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
