Drivers warned of delays as Westlink bridge opens
Drivers are today being warned that they could face further delays on the Westlink as a temporary bridge is opened to traffic.
The 140 metre bridge will take traffic from the Westlink onto the Grosvenor Road, and will remain in place for the next 18 months until an underpass and new bridge are completed.
From today there will be no access to and from the Westlink at its Grosvenor Road junctions, and the Department of Regional Development has said that over time the junction will effectively cease to exist.
Traffic wishing to join and leave the Westlink will be diverted to either Divis Street or Broadway junctions, where full access will be maintained with the Westlink.
There will no longer be access to the Royal Victoria Hospital from the Grosvenor Road junction, however alternative routes can be taken from the M2, by leaving the Westlink at Divis Street and following the signs to the RVH, or alternatively drivers can continue along the Westlink to Broadway and access the RVH from this junction.
The Westlink is currently regarded as the busiest road in Northern Ireland, carrying around 65,000 vehicles each day.

Pedestrian Dies Following Road Traffic Collision Ikn West Belfast
A female pedestrian in her 70s has tragically died following a road traffic collision in west Belfast on Saturday, 9th November. The incident occurred on Hannahstown Hill shortly after 6:50pm when two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle. Emergency services attended the scene, and the injured pedestrians were taken to hospital.
