Murder investigation after body find

Police in County Down have launched a murder inquiry after the discovery of a woman's body yesterday morning.

A 36-year-old man has been arrested and is currently being questioned by police in connection with the death.

The victim, who has been named as 77-year-old Tilly Campbell, was found dead at her home in Barnagh Park in Donaghadee, at around 6am yesterday morning after police received reports of a fire at the property.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out in order to establish the cause of death.

Detective Chief Inspector Sean Wright said that “a definite line of inquiry” was being followed and police patrols in the area had been stepped up.

DCI Wright added that it was vital for anyone who knows what happened to come forward and talk to police.

He said: "I would like to assure the community that there is a dedicated team of detectives committed to this investigation, following a definite line of inquiry.”

A spokesperson for the PSNI added that detectives were trying to piece together Ms Campbell's last movements and have appealed to anyone who may have seen or spoken to her on Sunday, or anyone who may have been in the Barnagh Park or Cannyreagh Road area of Donaghadee between 2am and 6am on Monday morning, to contact them on 0845 600 800, or anonymously on 0800 555 111.
