Adams to meet with Archbishop Eames
Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams is to meet with Church of Ireland Primate Archbishop Robin Eames at Stormont next Monday.
Lord Eames will be joined by four Church of Ireland Bishops from Northern Ireland, who will meet with the Sinn Fein delegation – after having already met with the UUP, the SDLP and the Alliance Party on previous occasions.
Monday's meeting follows last week's historical meeting between the DUP and the Catholic Primate, Archbishop Sean Brady.
A statement released by the Church of Ireland said that the Bishop's believe that political progress can only be achieved by full and equal participation, and added that this view will be reinforced during today's meeting.
Gerry Adams has said that this will be the first meeting between Sinn Fein and the Church of Ireland and added it is an “important and significant” part of his part's overall strategy of engagement with Protestant churches.
Mr Adams continued by saying that he was looking forward to discussing recent developments with Lord Eames and hopes that the meeting marks the beginning of a dialogue and Sinn Fein in the future.
