Funeral held for murdered UDA member
The funeral of one of the men gunned down by loyalists last weekend has taken place today.
Robert Carson, 33, was mortally wounded after gunmen ambushed the taxi he was travelling in last Saturday night. Mr Carson, who was a member of the UDA, died in hospital shortly after the attack. John Gregg, the UDA's south-east Antrim commander, who was also in the taxi died at the scene.
Both men were returning from a football match in Glasgow and had just left the ferry terminal in Belfast when the gunmen struck. The driver of the taxi remains in hospital and is described as being in a serious condition. Two other men – including Gregg's 18-year-old son Stewart – who were passengers in the car but escaped injury.
The Red Hand Defenders – a cover name commonly used by the UDA's C Company – claimed responsibility for the double murder. It was the latest bloody episode in the feud between Johnny Adair's lower Shankill-based C Company and the mainstream UDA – a feud that has so far claimed four lives in total since it began last September.
Mr Carson's funeral service will be held at the family's home in north Belfast before proceeding to Carnmoney Cemetery. He is survived by his wife and two children.
The funeral service for Gregg, who is survived by his wife and four children, will take place tomorrow at 1pm from his Rathcoole home.

Former UDA brigadier John Boreland was aware he was under threat after he was fatally shot in north Belfast on Sunday, 07 August, according to the police. The shooting attack happened in the Sunningdale Gardens area in Ballysillan at approximately 9.50pm. He died at the scene.

Funeral takes place of former UDA chief
The funeral of former UDA chief Jim Gray has taken place in Belfast on Tuesday. Gray, 47, the former UDA 'brigadier' in east Belfast, was shot dead outside his father's home last week. Tuesday's service took place at his father's home with members of the UDA told to stay away from the house.
