Armed robbery at north Belfast bank

Detectives have appealed for information following an armed robbery at a bank in north Belfast yesterday afternoon.

The incident happened at around 1pm, when up to four men – one brandishing a pistol, entered the bank building on the Crumlin Road area of the city.

One of the robbers forced the security guard to his knees, while the others demanded money from a cashier.

They then escaped with a substantial sum of money. No one was injured.

The thieves are all described as being between 5'7 and six feet tall, of thin build, and were all wearing dark coloured clothing and black balaclavas covering their faces.

Police have asked for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information in connection with it, to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

Bank robbery charges dropped
The County Down man accused of the £26 million Northern Bank robbery in 2004, has had the charges against him dropped. Dominic McEvoy, 23, a builder from Mullandra Park in Kilcoo, was not present in Belfast Magistrates Court during the hearing.

Police in County Tyrone have appealed for information following an armed robbery at a bank yesterday afternoon. The incident happened at around 3.45pm, when three men – one armed with a hatchet and another armed with a gun - entered a bank in the William Street area of Cookstown. The gang made off with an undisclosed sum of cash.
