Murder inquiry launched in County Down
Detectives in County Down have launched a murder inquiry after a man was fatally stabbed during an incident yesterday evening.
The attack happened in the Derrybeg area of Newry at around 7.30pm, when it is understood that the victim intervened in a row.
The victim Stefan Loughran, believed to be aged in his 40s, was taken to Daisy Hill hospital, but later died from his injuries.
One man has been arrested in connection with the murder and is currently assisting police with their inquiries.
The area has been cordoned off while the scene is examined for forensic evidence.
Anyone who witnessed the stabbing or with any information in connection with it, are asked to contact detectives in Newry on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

Man Jailed In Connection With Annahilt Cannabis Farm
The PSNI has welcomed the sentencing of a man at Craigavon Crown Court in connection with a cannabis farm disovered in Annahilt in February, 2023. Clive Weir, from the Annahilt area, was sentenced to 18 months in prison and 18 months on licence.

Police have launched a murder inquiry following the discovery of the body of man in his 40s in the Ballybean area of Dundonald. It is understood that the alarm was raised when the man, who has not yet been named, was reported overdue for work on Monday.

Woman's body found in North Belfast
Police have begun a murder inquiry following the discovery of the body of a 45-year-old woman at a house in north Belfast on Monday morning. A spokeperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland, said that officers called to the house at Brookville Court just before 7.30am this morning discovered the body of a woman.
