Policing Board pays tribute to US Special Envoy
Chairman of the Policing Board Professor Sir Desmond Rea has paid tribute to US Special Envoy Dr Mitchell Reiss as he prepares to step down from the post later this month.
Presenting Dr Reiss with a memento on behalf of the Board, Sir Desmond said: “Mitchell Reiss has made a significant contribution to the peace process and we are grateful for the support he has given to policing and the institutions during his term in office.
“I know that Dr Reiss was greatly encouraged by the Ard Chomhairle motion endorsed by Sinn Fein at the recent Ard Fheis. Both he and I trust that it will be fully implemented sooner rather than later. Full political and community support for policing will be for the benefit of the whole community.”
Welcoming Dr Reiss’ successor Dr Paula Dobriansky, Sir Desmond said: “I very much welcome Dr Dobriansky and trust her extensive experience will be of considerable benefit. On behalf of the Board I look forward to working with her in the future.”

PSNI performance figures released
Newly released PSNI performance figures have revealed that although the detection rate for violent crime has increased, it is still well below the target set by the Northern Ireland Policing Board. The targets are set in the Annual Policing Plan which the Board publishes every March.

SDLP issues 12 point plan for safer communities
The SDLP have issued a 12 point plan which it says will lead to safer communities if implemented. Policing spokesman Alex Attwood said his party would be pushing for full implementation of the plan over the next fours within the District Policing Partnerships and the Policing Board.
