Belfast marketing lecturer voted top of the class
The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) has announced the winner of the 2003 Marketing Lecturer of the year award.
Ms Frances Smyth who lectures at Belfast Institute of Further & Higher Education was chosen for the award based on her ability and willingness to 'go that extra mile'.
The Marketing Lecturer of the Year was launched in November 2002, when all students were invited to nominate their marketing lecturer of the year based on a variety of criteria including enthusiasm and depth of understanding for their subject.
Commenting on the award Darryl Cummins, Vice Chair/Education & Continuous Professional Development CIM said: "Marketing Lecturer of the Year initiative was launched to pay tribute to the commitment and dedication of our marketing lecturers. Most CIM students are full-time marketing practitioners, seeking to further their professional development.
"CIM courses are intensive and students are under a lot of pressure trying to juggle their careers and study. This in turn put pressure on lecturers to ensure that students get the most from their class time and are well prepared for sitting their exams. There are so many CIM Marketing Lecturers who are constantly 'going that extra mile' for their students that we felt they should be recognised and rewarded for their hard work."
As the overall Marketing Lecturer of the Year, Ms Smyth received a crystal trophy sponsored by Tyrone Crystal and a marketing residential course of her choice courtesy of CIM. The two runners up, Frank McKee and Hilary Scott were also awarded with crystal trophies from Tyrone Crystal.
There are over 700 CIM students studying Certificate & Diploma courses in Marketing in six further education colleges throughout Northern Ireland - Belfast, Castlereagh, Loughry, Fermanagh, East Antrim and Lisburn plus centres in the Republic of Ireland.
All students who submitted entries were entered into a prize draw for the latest in telephone technology from BT.
This award was sponsored by BT, Blue Design, the Newsletter, Royal Mail and Tyrone Crystal.
