Man remanded over tiger kidnapping

A 37-year-old man has appeared at court in Newry charged with two counts of false imprisonment, kidnapping, armed robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Martin Joseph Habern, of no fixed address, is accused of falsely imprisoning Ann Curry and her husband, Maurice at their home in Dromore County Down between December 12 and 13 2005.

During the incident Mrs Curry was taken from her home by an armed and masked man. She was driven away but was released 24 hours later.

Mr Habern was also charged with robbing the couple at gunpoint, as well as conspiring with others to rob money from a Securior van.

He was remanded in custody until next month.

Two charged over pensioner robbery
A 22-year-old man and a 30-year-old man are due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court later today, charged in connection with the aggravated burglary of a pensioner on Monday evening. The men face charges including false imprisonment, aggravated burglary and GBH.

Seven Charged With Strickland Murder
A fourth man has been charged with the murder of Phillip Strickland in Comber last week, bringing the total to seven. The 36-year-old was found in a car on Quarry Road, off the Ballydrain Road, near Comber on Wednesday last. He had been shot several times and was declared dead in hospital a short time later.

Man Charged After Glenarm Shooting
Detectives investigating the incident on Feystown Road on Monday, 25 November, have charged a 41-year-old man with attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, and criminal damage. The accused is due to appear at Ballymena Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday, 28 November.

Man Charged With Kidnapping Woman In East Belfast
A man has been charged with kidnapping a woman in east Belfast on Saturday 4th April. He is also accused of false imprisonment, common assault, assault on police and dangerous driving. The 25-year-old man is due to appear at Newtownards Magistrates Court today, Thursday. He was arrested on Wednesday.
