Elderly man dies in 'suspicious' house fire

Police are treating as suspicious a Co Antrim fire this afternoon in which an 86-year-old man died.

At around 2pm, emergency services from Portrush, Ballycastle and Ballymoney were called to the man's home on Drones Road in Armoy. Fire fighters extinguished the fire a short time later and discovered the victim's body. It is believed that the fire began in the kitchen of the house.

Elsewhere, a man in his 90s has been described as shocked and shaken following a robbery at his home in Larne.

At around 1.30pm, two men burst into the 96-year-old's home on the Curran Road and demanded money. One of the robbers held the pensioner down and twisted his arm behind his back, whilst the other ransacked the house. The pair made off with a small sum of money.

The robbers are described as in their 20s, and of medium build and medium height.

Anyone who any information on either incident should contact police.
