Parent group appealing over Tyrone school closure

A High Court battle has began in County Tyrone to try and save a school from closure.

St Joseph’s High School, in Plumbridge which has 50 pupils, is set to close in June due to a decline in numbers.

One parent has applied for a judicial review of the decision.

The woman, who has three children at the school has accused the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools of failing to carry out adequate consultation regarding the closure.

The school was open for 40 years and a lawyer representing the parent said he believed the CCMS’s decision was based on the schools dwindling numbers.

He said: "There was no meaningful written record of meetings held to discuss the school's future, an example of the carelessness and negligence shown by the CCMS in the discharge of its responsibilities."

The case continues.
