Sinn Fein meets with policing board
Sinn Fein has held its first meeting with the Northern Ireland policing board today.
Party president Gerry Adams has lead the talks which will raise the issues of police collusion with loyalist paramilitaries, and the use of plastic bullets.
The news follows a decision at a special party conference – the árdfheis, in January - which accepted policing arrangements once power-sharing is restored on 8 May.
Speaking after the first meeting, Board Chairman, Professor Sir Desmond Rea, said: "This was a positive and constructive first meeting and we welcomed the opportunity to discuss the role and work of the Northern Ireland Policing Board and various issues relating to policing in Northern Ireland.
"Since its inception the Board has driven forward a significant programme of policing change and evolutionary reform. Hopefully, with full political support for policing secured, the Board looks forward to a new and welcome phase in the history of policing.
"The Board remains committed to meeting its important policing oversight and accountability responsibilities so that the whole community can have confidence in the ability of the police service to deliver effective and efficient policing."

New police training college gets go ahead
The Northern Ireland Policing Board has set in motion plans to introduce a new police training college for the PSNI by 2007. The college has been advocated for months by PSNI Chief Constable Hugh Orde who said that the move was essential if Northern Ireland were to develop a world-renowned police force.
