Man jailed for 16 years for rape
A County Down man has been jailed for 16 years for the rape and abuse of his daughter and stepdaughter.
A judge told the man he was spared an 18-year sentence as he suffers from a heart condition.
He was placed on the sex offenders’ registrar and banned from “access to any female under the age of 17 without the consent of Social Service until further notice.”
Mr Justice Hart also ordered that the man should only be released on licence because there was “a high risk of his re-offending against young girls.”
The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his victims, was unanimously convicted of three counts of rape, 12 counts of indecent assault, one of gross indecency and two of inflicting actual bodily harm. He had abused both victims since they were six years old - the offences dated between June 1978 and February 1998.
