Drugs seized in south Dublin

A number of people have been arrested in a series of raids in south Dublin.

Over 30 houses were raided and 15 people arrested in the Tallaght area and heroin, cocaine, drug paraphernalia and an air rifle were seized by gardai.

Of those arrested, there were 13 men and two women, aged between 18-35. They are currently being detained in Tallaght, Rathfarnham, Clondalkin, Terenure, Crumlin and Rathmines and will appear before Tallaght District Court.

The raids were part of Operation Fossil, which targets street dealers of heroin, cocaine and crack cocaine.

Prison Officer 'Embarrassment' Over Drugs
The union representing prison officers in the Irish Republic has spoken of "embarrassment" over the arrest of a member in connection with drug smuggling. The prison officer was arrested yesterday morning at 7.30am on suspicion of smuggling drugs into Mountjoy Prison in Dublin.

Man Charged In Possession Of Heroin
A man is to appear in court charged in possession of heroin. Police arrested five people during searches of a property in Newry on Wednesday, 16 January. Two men have also been charged in possession of a Class A drug. A 50-year-old woman has also been charged with permitting premises to be used for the supply of a Class A drug.

Five to appear in court in connecton with Bangor robbery
Five youths are to appear in Downpatrick Magistrates Court today charged in connection with the robbery of an off-licence in Bangor on Tuesday night. Two youths, who entered the premises on the Rathgael Road, assaulted two female members of staff before making off with a sum of money and alcohol.
