Irish saint to be canonised
The Pope is to canonise a new Saint for Ireland in a ceremony at St Peter’s Square on Sunday.
Pope Benedict XVI will declare Blessed Charles of Mount Argus a new Saint, and President Mary McAleese will be among hundreds of Irish pilgrims who will travel to Rome for the ceremony.
Other guests set to attend include the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Vincent Jackson, the Garda Commissioner, Mr Noel Conroy and the Archbishop of Dublin.
Blessed Charles was born in Holland, but spent most of his life ministering in the south Dublin suburb of Mount Argus.
Born John Andrew Houben in Mustergleeen, in 1821, he joined the Passionate Order at the age of 19.
He transferred first to England, he then came to Mount Argus just as it had been founded and travelled around Ireland raising funds to help build it.
He spent most of his time working with the ill and dying in the community. Irish people travelled from all over the country to meet Blessed Charles when word of his tremendous healing power spread.
His remains were moved to a Shrine in the Mount Argus church in 1949 and people still regularly visit the relic of Blessed Charles in Harold’s Cross.

Channel 4 comedy Derry Girls was the most watched TV programme in Northern Ireland last year, according to an Ofcom report. The sitcom created by Lisa McGee follows a group of teenagers growing up in NI in the 1990s. It averaged over three million viewers in its third season and also scooped a number of Baftas.

Missing Co Antrim Man Found
A man who has been missing from Ballymoney since last Tuesday has been found "safe and well", police have said. Stephen Charles McKay, 47, was last seen at his home in the Co Antrim village last week (17 June) and concerns had been raised by his family regarding his whereabouts.
