Aer Lingus may set up new base at Aldergrove
Aer Lingus may be considering setting up a new base at Belfast International Airport, it has been revealed today.
Around 1,000 jobs may be created if it chooses Aldergrove for its new major expansion. It could also mean 15 new European routes may be set up as well as a Belfast International to Heathrow link.
Lagan Valley MP and DUP transport spokesman, Jeffrey Donaldson, said Belfast International is “moving ever closer” to attracting the airline.
“Aer Lingus is a respected carrier with its eye on growth opportunities in the United Kingdom; meanwhile the International Airport is growing its business at an impressive rate,” he said.
“The two could not be better suited as Aer Lingus seeks to expand its UK operations.
“It makes sense for Aer Lingus to come to Belfast as a base at the International Airport would broaden its catchment area in the United Kingdom while at the same time reinforcing the airport’s position as a major strategic economic asset."
