European Figures Confirm Irish Enterprise Strategy Working
The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment has welcomed new figures which confirm that Ireland has the third lowest unemployment rate in Europe.
"These figures also confirm that our unemployment rate at 4.1% is well below the EU average of 7% and the Euro-zone average of 7.1%. Only the Netherlands and Denmark have unemployment rates which are lower than Ireland," said Minister Micheál Martin.
He added that the figures show that the policy of pursuing an enterprise economy is ensuring that the unemployment rate is the envy of many other countries.
"Our strategy of training our workers to fill the jobs of the future, together with our efforts to support small business as well as inward investment and the continuing social partnership are clearly providing jobs for our people."
"While these figures are welcome the Government is fully aware that there are challenges ahead and will be working with the social partners and the state agencies to ensure we continue to meet those challenges,” concluded Minister Martin.
