FSB Suggest Tax Parity To Varney Review

The idea that companies from the Republic of Ireland should be allowed to set up in Northern Ireland while continuing to pay tax in the South has been put to the Varney Review which is carrying out a Treasury Review of Tax Policy in Northern Ireland.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) Policy Chairman Wilfred Mitchell said: “While the Federation of Small Businesses welcomes innovative thinking and is pleased to see new ideas coming forward we believe our submission to the Varney Review that Corporation Tax be harmonized between Northern Ireland the Republic in order to ensure competitiveness is the best way forward. We are calling for Corporation Tax in Northern Ireland to be lowered to 12.5% bringing it in line with the Republic.

“The FSB made its submission to the Varney Review in June, where we also outlined our proposals for the introduction of a Rates Reinvestment Fund, which we believe would better benefit local business.”

“Businesses in Northern Ireland are already being harmed by the tax regime in the Republic and what we want is the creation of a level playing field not a half-way option.”
