Drug Abuser Jailed For Raping Aunt

A 22-year-old north Antrim man has been jailed for eight years for raping his aunt before stealing her money and wrapping her head in duct tape.

The man, who cannot be named, will also spend two years on probation and will be placed on the sex offenders’ register for life.

Belfast Crown Court heard that the woman, who had fallen asleep, woke to find the man wrapping her head in duct tape, less than 24 hours after she had signed as a bail surety for the man.

Following his arrest the man claimed his aunt had “instigated this whole matter” by making sexual advances towards him.

However, the man admitted at the time that he had taken crack cocaine and vodka and later pleaded guilty to charges of rape, theft and false imprisonment.
