Teenager In Court Over Paramedic Attack
An 18-year-old male is due in court in relation to an attack on a paramedic in north Belfast, police have revealed.
Ambulance crews were tending to an unconscious man when he woke up and punched one of the carers in the face at Ballysillan Avenue.
The paramedic received a facial injury and his uniform was ripped during the incident.
Northern Ireland Service Chief Liam McIvor, said: “As a result of this particular incident ambulance cover in north Belfast was depleted for a period of 90 minutes as the crew involved were unavailable whilst the paramedic received hospital treatment.
“Calls in the area were responded to by crews from neighbouring stations.”
It is alleged the row broke out when the teenager claimed he did not want to go to hospital, after he regained consciousness.
A police spokesman said he has been charged with a number of offences in relation to the attack, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon.
He is due to appear before Laganside Magistrates Court this morning.
