New Car With No Tax Disc Towed Away
A senior National Car Parks (NCP) employee has defended the clamping of a brand new Aston Martin in Belfast city centre; just hours after the owner had picked it up from a dealer.
Simon Hamill’s car was clamped on Ormeau Avenue for not displaying a road tax licence.
However a spokesperson for NCP said the car was neither taxed nor registered and therefore should not have been on the road.
Speaking on BBC’s Nolan Show, Mr Hamill said: “The car is being driven under trade plates, because it is brand new out of the showroom and they have just taken it away."
He said as it was being driven under trade plates, it was road legal and that he had a certificate from the DVLA.
The NCP pointed out that most responsible car dealers across the UK and including Northern Ireland have access to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) database, and have the ability to tax a car before leaving the showroom.
Mr Hamill told the Nolan Show that the NCP were “not working with the people of Northern Ireland.”

Car tax dodgers appear in court
Seven people have been convicted and fined for evading the new car tax rules introduced in January this year. Fines totalling £8,000 were imposed under the new Continuous Registration rules in Belfast Magistrates’ Court earlier this month in relation to the offences which were committed in the first three months of the year.
