Ballyclare boosted by new bus centre
A purpose-built bus centre for the Ballyclare area was been officially opened today by direct rule minister for regional development Angela Smith.
The new bus centre stands on the site of the former Ballyclare railway station, and the facility represents an investment of £260,000 in improving the quality of services for public transport users and commuters throughout the area. Improvements include park-and-ride facilities, fully heated passenger waiting area, improved travel information displays, CCTV and parent and baby room.
Following detailed consultation with Disability Action, the station is also fully accessible for those with disabilities and includes low-level ticket desks and telephone kiosks, as well as an induction loop system for the hard of hearing.
Speaking at the launch of the station, Chairman of Translink Joan Smyth said: "This is an important development for the Ballyclare area, one which help ensure our public transport system meets the needs of the travelling public in the 21st century."
She continued: "It is almost a year since we launched our revised passenger charter and the opening of this new station further demonstrates our commitment to improving services across our network."
The Ballyclare opening is the latest move in a development programme which also includes refurbishment at Carrickfergus and a facelift for Belfast Central which is nearing completion.

Ballyclare Bomb Alert Declared A Hoax
Danny Kinahan, Ulster Unionist MLA for South Antrim, has condemned those responsible for a bomb alert near Ballyclare Police Station this morning. Local people had to be evacuated from their homes and children making their way to school were also put at risk.

Rathlin Fire Brought Under Control
Fire crews from across Northern Ireland have been working to bring a large gorse fire under control. Emergency services were called shortly after 1pm on Thursday after a gorse fire, spanning more than one kilometre, broke out on Rathlin Island. It is understood the blaze started after some rubbish caught fire.
