Opera Singer Pavarotti Loses Cancer Battle
World famous opera singer Luciano Pavarotti has died at the age of 71.
Pavarotti was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year and underwent five bouts of chemotherapy.
He was admitted to hospital, suffering from a fever, on August 8, although he was released two weeks later after undergoing diagnostic tests.
The singer's manager Terri Robson confirmed that he died around 5am local time at his home in the northern Italian city of Modena.
Pavarotti had been a star for 40 years and is best known for being one of the Three Tenors - alongside Placido Domingo and Jose Carerras - and for his version of 'Nessun Dorma' from Puccini's 'Turandot', which become the theme tune to the 1990 World Cup.
