Aircraft Grounded For Safety Checks
UK airline Flybe has grounded six of its fleet of Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft as a precautionary measure.
Bombardier has recommended that 60 of its Dash 8 Q400 turboprop aircraft are grounded for safety checks.
The call came after a second aircraft belonging to Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) was involved in an accident due to an apparent failure of the landing gear during touchdown. No injuries were reported in the incident.
On Sunday, an SAS aircraft experienced difficulties when its landing gear failed in Aalborg in Denmark.
Flybe routes affected due to the grounding of the aircraft include Belfast, Edinburgh and Gatwick. Other routes are also affected by the grounding inspection. These include the Channel islands, Isle of Man and Manchester.
Bombardier and landing gear manufacturer Goodrich said that aircraft with 10,000 takeoff and landing cycles should be inspected.
The company confirmed that an air-safety representative had been dispatched to Vilnius in Lithuania to "provide assistance to the investigating authorities."
