Fears Grow That UDA Feud Will Spread

Fears are growing that the latest loyalist feud will spread beyond Carrickfergus.

It has been reported that loyalist paramilitaries entered two bars in Larne to stage shows of strength.

It comes after the shooting incident in the Glenfield Walk area of Carrickfergus at 12.30am on Monday morning.

A police spokesperson yesterday said that a householder had heard a noise and discovered that a shot had been fired through the front window of the house.

The attack is being attributed to the latest in a series of incidents in a loyalist feud in the area.

Earlier, a pipe bomb attack damaged the back of a house in Carrickfergus. No-one was injured in the incident at Cairnhill Walk.

Northern Ireland Secretary Shaun Woodward has condemned the attacks and pointed out that the Assembly's Social Development Minister had given the UDA, which has denied any involvement in the attacks, an ultimatum over the withdrawal of community funding.
