Health Minister Halts Irish Translation

NI Assembly Health Minister Michael McGimpsey has halted the simultaneous translation of adverts and press releases in to the Irish language.

Mr McGimpsey said that the practice had cost his department £151,000 during the past five years. He said that under certain circumstances translation into Irish and Ulster Scots would be available on request. Submissions to the department in Irish and Ulster Scots will continue to be accepted.

Former Health Minister Bairbre de Brun expressed her disappointment at the decision and called on Mr McGimpsey to reconsider.
