Schools Disrupted By Strike Action
Disruption at schools across the province is expected to continue today as Classroom Assistants take part in the second day of industrial action.
The dispute over pay and hours reached an impasse last week when the offer from management was rejected by the main union Nipsa.
Last week Classroom Assistants were offered a one-off payment by way of compensation for salary changes. Nipsa turned down the offer which it said did not go far enough.
Several special schools with high numbers of Classroom Assistants have been forced to close, while some pupils with special needs who have been assigned a Classroom Assistant have been asked to stay at home.
Talks are expected to be held on Wednesday.

Classroom Assistants Begin Strike
Around 3,000 classroom assistants who are members of the public service union NIPSA began an all-out strike today. They have said they will not return to work until a new offer is made by employers, and the strike is likely to cause disruption in hundreds of schools.
