Illicit vodka bottling plant uncovered in south Armagh
Police have uncovered an illicit vodka bottling plant and seized £300,000 worth of contraband goods during a raid in south Armagh on Monday evening.
Police uncovered the vodka plant in Jonesborough were cases of drink labelled as Smirnoff and pre-printed Smirnoff labels were found, as well as counterfeit clothes, DVDs, video's, CDs and football shirts.
Police said that a large quantity of rolling tobacco and cigarettes were also removed.
Chief Superintendent Alan Caldwell said they were at the "very early stages of what is going to be a vigorous and complex investigation which will involve a number of agencies as well as ourselves".
However, while no one was arrested during the seizure, Mr Caldwell said it was clear police had foiled an effort to cash in on the drinks trade ahead of Christmas.

The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Tractors seized during police investigation

Co Down Bar Owner Fined For Selling Counterfeit Vodka
A Co Down bar owner has been fined for selling counterfeit vodka at Downpatrick Magistrates' Court. Mr Patrick Robert Maginn, 55, from Newcastle, pleaded guilty to three charges and was fined £6,000. In a case brought by the Trading Standards Service (TSS) of the Department for the Economy, he was charged under Section 92 of Trade Marks Act 1994.

Over 800 young people from schools in Lisburn and Castlereagh attended a hard-hitting road safety message at the PSNI Road Safe Roadshow on 19 November. The roadshow, supported by AXA Insurance and the Northern Ireland Road Safety Partnership, aims to educate young drivers about the dangers of irresponsible driving.

Detectives have renewed an appeal for information following a deliberate arson attack at a vacant property in the Weaver's Grange area of Newtownards. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 17 November, 2023. Police and firefighters were called to the scene at around 12:40am.
