Woman 'Critical' After Guest House Blaze
An investigation is underway into the cause of a fire that left two women in their mid-20s hospitalised - with one of them in a critical condition - after being trapped by the blaze that broke out in their bedroom at a B&B.
The fire was discovered at the Beach House bed and breakfast at Downs Road, Newcastle, on Monday night.
The fire service rescued the women, one of who was unconscious and badly burnt, the other semi-conscious.
Three other residents at the guesthouse managed to escape unhurt after a fire alarm had alerted them to the danger.
The two injured women are in hospital. One of them suffered severe burns and is in a serious condition.
Fire Station Commander Max Sinclair said: "Thankfully fire alarms were fitted. It was the owner who sounded the alert and got guests out."
He said that the first floor bedroom where the fire broke out had been badly damaged and there was smoke damage on that floor.
The source of the outbreak is unknown and currently under investigation.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE

An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

The Home Fire Safety Check coincides with Fire Safety Week, which runs from September 30th to October 6th. The initiative aims to reduce the number of house fires in Northern Ireland.

Minister Condemns Attacks On Fire Crews
Attacks on fire crews place their lives in danger and put communities at risk, said Public Safety Minister Michael McGimpsey today. Condemning a further spate of attacks on firefighters in Dungannon and Londonderry over the weekend, the Minister said it was absolutely unacceptable for anyone to assault emergency workers.

Two Teens Die In Co Down Road Crash
Two teenagers have been killed and another is in a critical condition in hospital after a car crashed into a wall in Rostrevor, Co Down. The vehicle left the Kilbroney Road, hit a wall and landed in a field just before midnight on Monday. It also struck the wall of a house and a home heating oil tank caught fire, leaving the house badly damaged.
