Cullyhanna Says Farewell To Victim

Family members and friends are set to pack St Patrick's Church in Cullhanna today to say their final goodbyes to the 21-year-old local man who was brutally beaten to death by a gang of nine men on Saturday.

The small south Armagh village will be at a standstill for the funeral of murdered lorry driver Paul Quinn especially after it emerged yesterday that virtually every bone in the young victim's body was broken as he was bludgeoned to death by iron bars and pick-axe handles in a remote Co Monaghan shed.

Mr Quinn's family have blamed the IRA for the killing, linking the attack to recent fights he had with republicans and a subsequent order to leave the country. But Sinn Fein denies the claim, saying criminals were responsible for the attack and linking it to fuel laundering.

His funeral cortege is due to leave his home at Drumlougher Road for Requiem Mass at 11am. Following the service, his interment will take place in the adjoining cemetery.

It is thought that Mr Quinn will be buried in a plot close to his best friend Brendan McCooey (18), also from Cullyhanna, who died just two months ago in Crete.

Both men were holidaying in Greece with other friends when the teenager drowned in a swimming pool accident in August.
