Deal Halts Aer Lingus Pilots' Strike
A threatened strike by Aer Lingus pilots, which would have resulted in all the airline's flights being grounded on Tuesday, has been averted after a deal was struck between the pilots and the airline's management.
Terms and conditions for staff at Aer Lingus' new base in Belfast were agreed, after more than 20 hours of negotiations at the Labour Relations Commission at the weekend.
Both sets of negotiators are expected to recommend the deal, which will be voted on by pilots in a ballot.
Aer Lingus pilots are due to meet in the ALSAA sports centre in Dublin Airport at 8pm on Monday night to discuss the agreement.
A statement issued by Aer Lingus on Monday morning said: "Following the successful conclusion of talks early this morning, Aer Lingus is pleased to confirm that the threat of disruption to services this week has been lifted."
Michael Landers, assistant general secretary of the Impact union, said that on balance the deal could be recommended to the union's members.
Up to 15,000 passengers could have been affected if Aer Lingus' flights had been grounded.
