NI actor collects OBE from Queen
Ballymena-born actor Liam Neeson has collected an OBE from the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
The 50-year-old actor, who has starred in such films as ‘Schindler's List’ and ‘Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace’, was originally given the honour in the New Year Honours 2000 - but waited two-and-a-half years to pick up his honour.
His wife, actress Natasha Richardson, did not attend the ceremony as she was at the couple's New York home looking after their two young sons.
After receiving his award, Neeson revealed he had not been so nervous since meeting Muhammad Ali at London's Dorchester Hotel back in the early 1980's when he was an amateur boxer.
A veteran of more than 30 films, his break in acting came at Belfast's Lyric Theatre.
He can currently be seen in the newly released submarine movie, ‘K-19: The Widowmaker’ alongside Hollywood superstar Harrison Ford.
