USPCA condemns 'appalling' death of four kittens
The USPCA has described the deaths of four kittens which were crushed in a bin lorry as "an act of appalling malice".
The four apparently unwanted kittens were crushed to death in the refuse lorry's crusher after they were dumped in a skip in Co Londonderry.
However, two kittens were saved thanks to the quick reaction of the refuse collectors.
Condemning those responsible, USPCA chief executive, Steven Philpott, said: "You can imagine what it was like being out in that sort of weather we have had over the past couple of days and they are obviously receiving whatever veterinary treatment they have to get.
"It is an act of appalling malice to take unwanted kittens and for any reason to dump them into a bin knowing they would end up in a landfill site. It is just absolutely appalling."
Mr Philpott said that the two rescued kittens were in "a very poor condition" after being taken to the USPCA's shelter at Ben Varden, near Coleraine.
