Dungannon Attack Victim Dies

A murder enquiry has been launched after the death of a 20-year-old man in hospital two days after he was assaulted in Dungannon town centre.

The victim was Donatas Velicka, who lived at the Willows in the town but was originally from Lithuania.

He was beaten up about 12.45am on Sunday morning outside an off-licence in Scotch Street.

Detectives said they had now begun a murder inquiry following the death of Mr Velicka and that two men remain in custody.

PSNI officers originally questioned a 17-year-old boy as well as two men, aged 22 and 20, about the assault.

The area around the incident had been cordoned off early on Monday while police examined the scene and Union Street, Scotch Street and Irish Street were temporarily closed to traffic.

Detectives in the Dungannon area would like to hear from witnesses or anyone with information.
