Man dies in Co Down road collision
A man has been killed in a road traffic accident in Co Down early this morning.
He was killed following a collision between a van and a lorry on the main Belfast to Dublin road between Loughbrickland and Newry at about 4.30am. The man has not yet been named but he is known to be from the north of England.
The A1 has been closed between the Grovehill and Annaghbane Road junctions. There are diversions in the area.
The accident followed just hours after a major collision on the same A1 route, but on a stretch of road just over the border.
Sixteen people were treated in hospital following the accident, which involved seven vehicles, on the A1 between Newry and Dundalk. Some of the injured were taken to Newry's Daisy Hill Hospital.
One man was arrested at the scene by Gardai before being released on bail.
A lorry, two vans and four cars were involved in the collision.
Meanwhile, the Met Office has issued a hazardous driving warning to motorists for Monday morning following heavy overnight rain.
The severe weather has affected most areas but particularly roads in Co Tyrone.
