Red Light Alert For Belfast Drivers

A series of new traffic cameras have been installed at busy junctions in Belfast to catch motorists running red lights.

The highly visibile cameras have been located at five sites across the city that have been identified as having a history of collisions caused by drivers failing to stop at lights.

The cameras have been sited in 30mph zones at Great George's Street; College Avenue; Nelson Street; Millfield and Middlepath Street at its junction with the M3 on-slip.

Motorists caught running the lights will be hit - not by another car (hopefully) - but with three penalty points on their licence and a fine of £60.

There was more than 200 people injured in crashes at the various junctions in the four years to December 2006.
