Engineering exporters take the Pulse
Pulse Technology Systems in Coalisland are helping some of Ireland’s top engineering companies compete more aggressively for business in world markets.
Among clients of Pulse Technology’s Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software product, which enables manufacturers to manage product documents and technical data more efficiently, is Moffett Engineering of Dundalk – Ireland’s Exporter of the Year and now part of Finland’s Partek Cargotec. Other clients include US-owned Terex International subsidiaries Powerscreen International, Dungannon, and Finlay Hydrascreens, Omagh.
Pulse Technology’s Managing Director, Damian Rafferty, paid tribute to the advice and assistance from Invest NI’s Western Local Office in Omagh and the experience gained from taking part in the Cross Border Technology Start Up Programme.
“It provided a wealth of information about starting up a technology business and also gave us access to an experienced mentor from PricewaterhouseCoopers whose guidance about business planning was invaluable. The whole programme was ideal because it was geared to the needs of a small businesses like Pulse Technology in terms of content that was easily understood and delivery times that suited us,” Mr Rafferty said.
Formed in 2000 by Mr Rafferty to turn an idea for the software development into a product, Pulse Technology, now an Invest NI client company and employing five people, is aiming to grow sales for its software product by setting up a network of resellers in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.
Invest NI is helping Pulse Technology in shaping a marketing plan geared to the specific requirements of the small to medium-sized manufacturing businesses that are the company’s primary target.
Mr Rafferty said with the main competitors tending to be large multinational technology companies, smaller manufacturing businesses tended to relate more easily Pulse.
“As well as offering a software product which offers more functions in terms of easier management of large volumes of data from product design through component specification to final configuration, we believe that we can establish a competitive edge by providing a nimble and responsive service,” he added.
