Bus passenger numbers rise as train journeys fall
The number of people using bus services in Northern Ireland has risen according to new figures released today.
According to the latest edition of the Northern Ireland Road and Rail Transport Statistics Quarterly Bulletin, bus passenger receipts increased from £1.51 to £1.62 million on a weekly average basis compared to the same period in the previous year.
The Bulletin also showed a 3% fall in the number of people using trains.
The report revealed that 21% of all new cars registered for the first time were imported from the Republic of Ireland while 60% of the 1,035 heavy goods vehicles registered for the first time were previously used vehicles.
The number of motor-cars taking MOT tests also increased to during the same period.
During the quarter car ‘Learner’ driving tests decreased by 11% with the average male pass rate for the test dropping to 48%, the female pass rates remained at 46%.
The Quarterly Bulletin, produced by the Central Statistics and Research Branch of the Department for Regional Development, contains figures relating to the period between April 1 and June 30, 2002.

NI Construction Output 'At 2008 Level'

According to recent figures published by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) the total volume of construction output in the second quarter of 2011 fell by 7.0% compared to the first quarter of 2011.
