Stimulating attractions welcomed to Odyssey's W5
Culture, Arts and Leisure Minister, Michael McGimpsey today underlined the continuing need to stimulate everyone’s imagination to help create a better future for Northern Ireland.
Speaking at W5, the interactive discovery centre at the Odyssey, the Minister unveiled 30 new exhibits which have been added to the current attractions at this unique venue.
Addressing an audience of around 200, many of whom were school pupils, Mr McGimpsey said: “The Province is not rich in natural mineral resources but it does have one precious commodity – its people and, in particular, its young people. And it is that generation on whom today’s society is pinning its hopes for the future.
“It is to them we are looking for the new ideas which will help us to compete in the world’s economic marketplace and make Northern Ireland a more prosperous country in which to live. We must therefore continue to do all we can to stimulate their fresh, imaginative and inquiring young minds. We need to arouse our children’s curiosity and encourage them to experiment with science and technology and that is exactly what W5 is designed to do.”
The Minister pointed out that in just over eighteen months, this facility had proved to be a roaring success. He added: “These new exhibits are very welcome additions to W5’s current attractions and I am confident that its popularity will continue in the years ahead. I wish all those associated with it every success.”
Mr McGimpsey was welcomed to W5 by its Chairman, Dan Harvey, and by its Director, Sally Montgomery.
W5 now boasts over 130 hands-on, high-tech exhibits in the imaginative interactive collection.
