Shipyard job cuts announcement likely on Monday
The outlook for over 200 workers jobs at Harland and Wolff remained bleak on Friday.
Despite a meeting between East Belfast MLA, Sir Reg Empey and trade union leaders, there was no further comment on the plight of the shipyard workers.
Sir Reg, who is also Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment, failed to make any comment following the meeting after rumours circulated during the week that the shipyard was planning to shed over half its workforce.
Harland and Wolff have also declined to comment on the job losses, although a statement is expected from the company on Monday.
The cuts come in spite efforts by both the Government and parent company Olsen Energy to mount a rescue package to ensure that Harland and Wolff is able to continue trading.
Olsen Energy has been struggling over the past few years and in 2000 the company cut the 1,200-strong workforce in half.
The DETI has also yet to respond publicly to the Harland and Wolff announcement.

Harland and Wolff in bid to save Belfast shipyard
Belfast shipbuilding company Harland and Wolff shipyard is in discussions with Ministers from the Northern Ireland Executive in a last ditch effort to try and save the yard from closure. The yard has said that by June it would be working at an “under-utilisation capacity” and that work would be tapering off at that stage.
