300 jobs to be created at £23m Coleraine shopping centre
The Minister of Finance and Personnel (DFP) opened a £23 million shopping centre today that will see up to 300 new jobs created in the Coleraine area when it is fully operational.
Dr Sean Farren, who is the minister with responsibility for the sponsorship of the construction industry, congratulated the town on the quality of its retail hub as he cut the ribbon at the Diamond Shopping Centre.
“This is a prestigious project where the construction industry has played a prominent part. It is the only retail centre to open in Northern Ireland this year and certainly confirms Coleraine’s position as the urban focal point of the Causeway Coast,” he said.
The Diamond is the only covered shopping centre in the region and by November upwards of 20 businesses are anticipated to be trading there. The centre has been developed jointly by CUSP Property Investment and Scottish investor Dunallister.
Dr Farren highlighted the DFP’s role in working with the construction industry, saying: “Next week also sees the start of National Construction Week. On Tuesday, the Construction Employers’ Federation, in partnership with other bodies in the industry, will launch the Northern Ireland Construction Week at Stormont.”
Afterwards Dr Farren went on a tour of the Centre and met and chatted with local business people and community representatives.

Plans for a major redevelopment of Dairy Farm Shopping Centre in Dunmurry, Co Antrim have been approved. NI Environment Minister, Edwin Poots said: "This is a welcome investment boost for the area providing 200 construction jobs and 300 permanent jobs on completion.
