Film Project Is Shortlisted For National Award

A ground-breaking project that uses film and television to raise aspirations, boost confidence and open the door to employment has been shortlisted for a national award.

Nunny TV, funded by Neighbourhood Renewal and based at Nunsthorpe Library, will win at least £2,000 after being named in the final three of the Libraries Change Lives Award 2008.

Steve Hipkins, North East Lincolnshire's Head of Cultural Services, said: "There were 37 projects nominated from across the country so to get into the final three is recognition for what the team has achieved."

Chair of Neighbourhood Renewal Dr Tony Hill said the project had encouraged new skills.

"Teamwork, research, timekeeping, communication skills, IT and use of new technologies have boosted self esteem and employability," he said.

"This is supported by the number of work placements arranged with Nunny TV through employment services."

Nunny TV is up against entries from Kent and Bradford in the final. The winner, which will pick up £5,000, will be announced on 23 April at the Library + information Show (LiS), taking place at the NEC, Birmingham.
