Baton rounds fired in north Belfast riot
Police have reported firing seven baton rounds in a night of serious rioting in north Belfast.
The trouble occurred in the loyalist Mount Vernon estate last night when a mob attacked police who were attempting to make an arrest in the area.
Police reported coming under sustained attack from a range of missiles and one police officer had to receive treatment for a minor injury.
A number of police vehicles were damaged during the disturbances when concrete blocks were dropped from flats onto police Land Rovers below.
Army Technical Officers also were called in to examine suspicious objects which had been thrown by the mob. Controlled explosions were carried out on the objects which were later described as elaborate hoaxes.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Two suspicious objects found during a security alert in Carrickfergus, County Antrim, have been declared elaborate hoaxes according to police. The security alert began on Sunday afternoon in the Broadlands Gardens area of the town, when several homes were evacuated.

A security alert in east Belfast this morning has been declared a hoax. Three suspicious objects close to a telephone box were removed for examination after they had been checked by Army technical officers.
