Road Deaths Rise

Road accidents have claimed two more lives - pushing the total to a startling 27 this year already. Two pensioners died in separate incidents - one in County Antrim - which saw a 73-year-old man killed when his car hit a wall along the Ballybentragh Road in Dunadry at about 5pm Sunday. In County Down, an 88-year-old woman has died in hospital three days after she was knocked down at Woodrow Gardens in Saintfield. The total of 27 people who have died on Northern Ireland's roads since the beginning of the year includes one of the most recent cases of a young woman from Newtownabbey, who died in a road crash on the M2 in County Antrim. She was Caoimhe Delargy. The 21-year-old was killed when her car crashed on the north-bound lane of the M2 motorway, close to Ballymena at around midday on Easter Sunday, March 23. No other vehicles were involved in the accident near the Larne Road roundabout. She was taken to hospital in a critical condition, but later died.



Woman's Death Probed

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman whose body

was found in the front garden of a house in west Belfast. The remains of the 56-year old were discovered in the garden of a house at Navan Green in the Andersonstown area in the early hours of Saturday morning. A post mortem is due to be carried out to establish the cause of her death.



Roadside Brawl Witnesses Sought

Drivers who may have witnessed a weekend roadside fight on the outskirts of Londonderry have been urged to contact the PSNI. At around 5.30pm on Saturday, the occupants of two cars, a white Nissan and a blue Subaru, were involved in an altercation on the Glenshane Road. One of the drivers sustained cuts and bruises to his face during the incident. A man has since been arrested. A PSNI spokesman said there were a large number of cars on the Glenshane Road at the time "many of which slowed down". Officers in the city have urged the occupants of these cars to contact them at Waterside on 0845 600 8000.



Kids Protected

Lethal weapons should not be used on children in Northern Ireland except where there

is an imminent and established threat to life, a draft Bill of Rights for the Province will

suggest. The proposal, which children's rights campaigners are expected to criticise, is contained in a draft Bill which will be handed over to the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission in Belfast today.



Accidents Close Roads

ONE lane of the M1 motorway was closed for a short time yesterday following a multi-vehicle traffic accident. The incident occurred shortly before 5pm close to the Moira interchange in the country bound direction. It is not yet known if anyone was seriously injured as a result of the collision.Meanwhile the Ballygowan Road was closed last night following a road traffic accident. One vehicle was involved in the incident which occurred close to the junction with the Manse Road shortly after 7pm.

Woman and child die in separate road accidents
Police are appealing for information after a woman and child died in two separate road accidents overnight. In Belcoo, Co Fermanagh, a three-year-old girl died after being hit by a car. The accident happened on the Railway Road at around 9.15pm on Monday. The girl is the third child to die on Northern Ireland's roads this year.

Two die in separate road accidents
Two people have died in separate road accidents in Counties Londonderry and Down. In the latest accident, a man died following a road traffic accident in Ballynahinch on Wednesday. The accident occurred on the Crossgar Road at around 10.30am. Only one vehicle is believed to have been involved. The victim's name has yet to be released.
