Fire Couple Rescued As Grain Silo Fire Tackled
As firefighters were dealing with a blaze at Duncrue Industrial Estate this morning in Belfast, it has emerged that a possible fire tragedy was narrowly averted at a north Belfast private house overnight.
In what was seen as a lucky escape for the occupants, the two people were rescued by neighbours following the house fire in Ligoniel.
The fire was discovered in a bedroom just before 10.30pm on Thursday.
The two casualties were treated at the scene by ambulance service for the effects of breathing in smoke.
It is understood the fire may have started accidentally.
Meanwhile, in the latest fire in the industrial estate, firefighters were called to a large grain silo at 8.30am this morning.
The fire, which was accidental, was confined to the fourth floor.
There are no reports of any injuries, and the fire service has now left the scene.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE

An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has introduced a new online tool to help residents assess their home fire safety. The Home Fire Safety Check coincides with Fire Safety Week, which runs from September 30th to October 6th. The initiative aims to reduce the number of house fires in Northern Ireland.

Tyre Blaze May Have Been Deliberate
The huge fire that broke out in a tyre depot in Co Londonderry overnight may have been arson. The Fire Service is investigating if the blaze could have been deliberate and the police have also appealed for information to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity.

Minister Reacts To Teachers' Union Ballot Threat
Education Minister Paul Givan has responded to the announcement by several teachers' unions that they plan to ballot their members for industrial action over 2024/25 pay. Earlier this year, the Minister provided funding to successfully resolve the long-running industrial dispute over teachers' pay for 2021-24.

Man Killed In Co Tyrone Collision
Police are continuing to investigate after a pensioner was killed in a car collision in Co Tyrone. The accident occurred on the A4, Woodlough Road in Dungannon on Monday morning. The man, aged in his 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene and a post mortem is to be carried out to determine the cause of his death.
