Three killed in County Armagh road crash named
A mother and her teenage daughter were among the three members of a family killed in yesterday's horror road crash in County Armagh.
Marie Teresa Maughan (32), her daughter 14-year-old Bridget Christine Maughan from Ardnaskea Park in Coalisland, and their cousin 22-year-old Peter Maughan from Hackney in London were killed when their vehicle was in collision with an articulated lorry laden with steel girders.
Emergency services called to the scene managed to cut free a woman and her two-year old daughter, and the lorry driver from the wreckage. The three injured were rushed to Craigavon hospital where their condition was described as stable.
It is understood that the Maughan family members were returning from a wedding in Keady.
The road was closed for several hours while rescuers worked to free the injured from the vehicles.
A spokesperson for the ambulance service said that paramedics called to the crash said they were met with a "very distressing" scene but that they had worked in a dedicated and professional manner with their colleagues from the fire service to free all those involved.
A local councillor described the road junction where the accident occurred as a notorious accident blackspot and said there had been previous calls to have the road realigned.
