Coalisland company helps out Dublin hospital

Mater Misericodaie Hospital in Dublin has unveiled a new 90ft building that will reduce hospital waiting times around the North Dublin area.

The building consists of five storeys, in 60 modular sections. The basement has been designed as a heart and lung ward, with an endoscopy suite, medical rooms, biopsy suites, nurse stations, operating theatres, hospital wards, conference rooms and offices.

Northern Ireland construction company, Western Building Systems, provided the project with a fast-fix solution to ease the crisis of bed and surgical space that the hospital required.

The Coalisland based company - a leading exponent of pre-fabricated techniques – created what is now Ireland's tallest pre-fabricated building.

The building, which took only four months to design, manufacture, install and complete, has been described by many Irish health officials as a “solution staring at the health sector in Ireland.”

Manufactured under a controlled factory environment at the company’s Mountjoy Road plant, just a short distance from its Coalisland based headquarters, this manufacturing technique has given the hospital a saving of 40% over traditional build and a reduction on lead time on site.

Hospital project managers have described the project as a concept of modular building that is a natural solution to the current health crisis.
