Paramilitary beatings costing health service millions of pounds
Newly released figures have revealed that paramilitary-style attacks in Northern Ireland cost the health service around £1.5 million a year.
The figures, compiled by the Eastern Health Board, also showed that such shootings and beatings also result in an increase in the numbers waiting for emergency fracture surgery.
On average the cost of looking after someone who has been shot, for example, could total more than £7,000 - a figure which includes their stay in hospital and rehabilitation.
So far this year, 234 people have been the victims of paramilitary-style attacks.
The board said the total bill last year for looking after victims of such attacks would be more than £1.4 million.

Rise in NI unemployment figures
The number of people unemployed in Northern Ireland is on the increase according to the latest figures. Labour force statistics released on Wednesday revealed that some 46,000 people are unemployed, a rise of 3,000 on the this time last year.

Benefit Millions Going Unclaimed: But No One Knows How Much
There is likely to be over £300 million in government benefits going unclaimed each year. Surprisingly though, the Department of Social Development has admitted it cannot be certain of the exact total. However, its estimates of what went unclaimed in the last year range from £37 million to £315 million.

Customs team uncovers fuel laundering plant
Customs officers have uncovered an illegal fuel laundering operation in Co Armagh. The plant, which was found in a joint operation with police officers, was capable of processing about 70,000 litres of diesel a week. The team also seized two vehicles and 9,000 litres of illegal fuel.

41-Year-Old Jailed For Grooming 13-Year-Old Girls
A Belfast man has been jailed for six years for charges relating to grooming three 13-year-old girls. 41-year-old David Osborne, of Summer Street, was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for the rest of his life. Belfast Crown Court heard that Osborne sent the girls gifts, Valentine's cards and money.
