Unpaid Bill May Shut Derry Call Centre

A half-million pound unpaid bill has placed some 50 jobs in jeopardy with a Londonderry call centre now likely to be closed.

Following earlier reports that the Foyle MP Mark Durkan had voiced fears for the future of Anderson Manning's office in Rosemount after the company failed to pay staff, he has now been warned that the office is likely to close following the sale of the firm to a venture capital company.

Problems began when their largest client recently ceased trading - leading to severe cash-flow problems and while the staff have now been paid, Anderson Manning has confirmed that it has been sold, but that redundancies could not be ruled out.

Forest Leaf Properties - the new owners - are likely to close the entire operation in Derry.

The MP for Foyle, the SDLP's Mark Durkan has again got involved in the issue and said the new owners needed to be in direct contact with the workers and "talk to them straight and clearly".

He said there had been "a lot of frustration and resentment that people haven't been told things over the past number of weeks".

Anderson Manning was Northern Ireland's first independent call centre. It employs about 150 people in Bangor and 50 in Derry.

But its fortunes took a turn for the worse recently, when its largest client went to the wall, owing Anderson Manning more than £500,000.

Call Centre Jobs In Doubt
A local MP has spoken of his renewed concerns over jobs at a troubled call centre in Northern Ireland. Workers at Anderson Manning Associates, which employs 150 people in Bangor and 45 staff at its Rosemount offices in Londonderry, are worried that their jobs may be in jeopardy following the collapse of a major TV network contract.

200 Call Centre Jobs To Be Axed
More than 200 call centre jobs in Belfast and Armagh are to be chopped, it has been revealed. HCL BPO Services (Northern Ireland), a unit of HCL Technologies, announced a 90-day consultation period.

Belfast to get jobs boost from BA call centre restructuring
Up to 50 new jobs look set to be created by British Airways (BA) in Belfast after it was announced that the airline is to restructure its UK call centre operation. BA said it was restructuring the operation in response to the growing number of customers who book flights on the airline’s website and the declining number of calls handled.

There are hopes today that a potential new customer will be found for a beleaguered Londonderry call centre. Just last Friday it emerged that more than 400 jobs could go at the Stream International call centre in the city within two months, if new work isn't found.

Linguists Sought For Belfast Call Centre
Multilingual staff are being sought for a north Belfast call centre. TeleTech - in Duncairn Gardens - announced it will add up to 80 technical service positions in the next month. The new employees will provide inbound technical support for our global clients.
